Last week, Sigil Radio celebrated 1 year of broadcasting! Happy Birthday Sigil Radio! Based in Birmingham (West Midlands, UK), the station features shows from emerging performers from across the electronic music spectrum. I was actually planning on chosing 5 of my recent favourite shows from Sigil and coincidentally it had been 1 year of them broadcasting. Big up to Ringers, Being and the rest of the Sigil Radio team – thanks for the platform and everything that you do.
So here’s my favourites from the last few weeks……. First up we have Misha & Nay Nay:
I’ve been following Misha and Nay Nay for just over a year. This is the first time I’ve heard them play a back-to-back set. It doesn’t disappoint, there’s a range of energy and styles across the underground dance music spectrum. I was listening while I was working from home and it had me stomping my feet and clapping my hands in no time. You can expect to hear artists such as Obsidian Wave, 9TRANE, Parry, Addison Groove and more. I’m always hyped to discover new music and artists in their selections.
Next up, it’s the Honey Whine show with King Kai, Mamba.EXE & Q Sermon:
The Honey Whine show is hosted by Q Sermon and covers a lot of different musical styles. In this show the focus is on jungle/dnb. It’s brilliant! Jungle was my first love, I grew up with it and it’s important to me. It was amazing to hear what jungle means to a newer generation of DJs. This show is nothing short of amazing.
Thirdly, it’s Bordeline Massive from the High Key Records crew. This one’s on more of a house, uk funky kinda tip. If you’re a fan of DJs like Roska, you won’t be disappointed. It’s full of serious underground killer cuts:
Another favourite is the Ghost Snares show, this one’s hosted by Elkie. Elkie has been a long time friend and soldier from Birmingham. He’s released music on the prestigious Western Lore label, Ghost Snares and Futurepast Zine of course! The show contains a brilliant mix of different styles of jungle and DnB.
And here’s my finale…. Goosensei with Jugganaut on a 140 & Dubstep tip. Goosensei has been running the Listening Sessions events in Birmingham alongside Elkie. Goosensei has also got some new music coming out in a couple of weeks, so watch out for it. In the meantime, check out this awesome show where the pair kick up a bass heavy storm:
Once again, big up Sigil Radio! There are so many awesome shows. I’ll aim to highlight more that pique my interest. In the meantime check out the above mentioned DJs, and here’s some Sigil Radio links:
